ALMOST THERE SECOND EDITION Film Festival In our second edition of the Almost There Film Festival on Human Rights & Migration, the Heinrich Böll Foundation Middle East office and the Embassy of Switzerland in Lebanon chose a selection of sixteen outstanding movies (shorts and feature movies), from Lebanon, the Arab world, Europe and all over the world, with this year a special focus on productions from and about Africa. Often people find themselves migrants without wanting to, coerced by an environment that leaves them no other choice than leaving behind the familiar. The phenomena that cause migration are complex, multi-layered and eventually unique for each migrant. The diverse aspects addressed in the selected movies of the festival reflect the pressing aspects of this topic and contribute to the discussion bringing about solutions to mitigate the causes of displacement. This edition took place from November 1 to 5, 2017, inside and outside Beirut.
ALMOST THERE FOURTH EDITION Film Festival The fourth edition of The Almost There film festival on human rights and migration took place at the Metropolis Empire Sofil from June 13 to 16, 2019, featuring artists, journalists and activists driven by their belief in a cause, as well as examining questions around documenting, narrating and remembering. In different ways, all of them are going beyond limits: limits imposed by politics, by society or by personal circumstances. They are doing everything they can to claim their own rights and those of others, to realize their dreams and assert their dignity. Across the world, the principle of equality is being undermined, and people’s rights hollowed out. In response to this trend, we began the festival with a discussion on Women’s Rights as Human Rights, a conversation about how we can support women taking agency and standing up.
