Susana Galán (b. 1978) is a PhD Candidate in Women’s and Gender Studies at Rutgers University (NJ, USA). Her dissertation focuses on autonomous practices of self-defense and community intervention against public sexual violence in Cairo. She has published a chapter on activism against public sexual violence in Cairo in the book Beyond the Square: Urbanism and the Arab Uprisings, edited by Deen Sharp and Claire Panetta (2016, Terreform). Her work has also been featured in the Journal of International Women’s Studies, the Observatori del Conflicte Social, Cairobserver, and Jadaliyya.
