2nd Arab Bloggers Meeting

The Heinrich Boell Stiftung AMEO, the Heinrich Boell Stiftung MEO and Global Voices will organize the Second Arab Bloggers Meeting in Beirut from the 8th till the 12th of December 2009. This meeting is a follow-up to the First Arab Bloggers Meeting which took place in August 2008 in Beirut and was the first gathering of its kind, bringing together Arab bloggers to exchange experiences. This time bloggers from 18 Arab countries are invited to attend the intensive training and networking meeting of young bloggers in the region.

The 5-day meeting aims to coach bloggers on how to leave their imprint in the international blogging sphere, make their voices heard, organize online and offline campaigns to pressure governments to stop censorship and restricting freedom of expression, and also champion their rights - whether women, marginalized communities or ‘other’ minorities. Moreover, the aim of the conference is to give the bloggers a chance to form solidary networks.

The five day training and meeting will offer sessions on the following topicsm

  • How to run a campaign
  • Microblogging
  • Social networking websites
  •  Video editing and shooting

    • Online photography and photo editing
    • G - Mapping tools and Mashups
    • Translation issues facing online users
    • Starting wikis and keeping them updated
    • Crossposting and integrating online activities
    • Reaching out

The meeting will consist of closed session and session that are open to the public.
