Almost There Film Festival - 2023 Film Festival OUR ROOTED RIGHTS August 18th - September 2nd 2023 Imagine basil plants protecting tomatoes by repelling insects from it, and tomatoes returning the favor by having deep roots that preserve water, which then keeps the basil plants hydrated. This is one of the many cycles of nature that makes it all interconnected in an infinite chain of life. This might be the easiest way to explain how nature has always organized itself, taking advantage of the diversity of its species to ensure its survival. For the 7th consecutive year, our film festival is built around Human Rights and Migration. This year’s festival is entitled, “Our Rooted Rights”, and focuses on environmental justice.
Almost There 6th Edition - The Role We Play Film Festival The Heinrich Böll Stiftung Beirut office (hbs) is holding its 6th annual Almost There Film Festival on Human Rights and Migration from 14th of September until 22nd of October 2022. The role we play is our topic of 2022. For the second year, the festival will be held in five separate cities around the country: Beirut, Hammana, the Bekaa Valley, Saida, and Tripoli.

Denmark: Flawed country of origin reports lead to flawed refugee policies JOINT STATEMENT Denmark decided as the only European country to lift the refugee status of a number of Syrian refugees based on its conclusion that Damaskus is safe for return. This policy is largely based on the Danish Ministry of Immigration's "Country of Origin" report of 2019. A number of experts quoted in these report, among them Dr. Bente Scheller, Heinrich Boell Stiftung speak out against how their expertise was used to justify a step that is not in line with European policies. Airdropping aid to starving Syrians is doable Of the 52 besieged areas mostly in rural Damascus, 49 of them are encircled by the Syrian regime, two by rebel forces and one by ISIS. Under siege, conditions are very uncertain—since starvation is being used as a weapon of war–therefore the situation in some of these areas could quickly turn into a critical situation if aid is completely cut off for a short amount of time.
