In our second edition of the Almost There Film Festival on Human Rights & Migration, the Heinrich Böll Foundation Middle East office and the Embassy of Switzerland in Lebanon chose a selection of sixteen outstanding movies (shorts and feature movies), from Lebanon, the Arab world, Europe and all over the world, with this year a special focus on productions from and about Africa. Often people find themselves migrants without wanting to, coerced by an environment that leaves them no other choice than leaving behind the familiar. The phenomena that cause migration are complex, multi-layered and eventually unique for each migrant. The diverse aspects addressed in the selected movies of the festival reflect the pressing aspects of this topic and contribute to the discussion bringing about solutions to mitigate the causes of displacement. This edition took place from November 1 to 5, 2017, inside and outside Beirut.
